Ship’s Master, “Captain”
The ship’s master is responsible for the overall command of the vessel and holds ultimate responsibility for the crew, cargo, the seaworthiness of the vessel, and generally everything related to the operation of the ship.
Education
The ship’s master most commonly holds a Master Mariner qualification (a university of applied sciences degree in maritime studies). In restricted trading areas and on smaller vessels, a lower level of certification may be sufficient.
