Governing bodies of the Maritime Association
The governing bodies of the Maritime Association are the General Meeting and the Board. The Annual General Meeting, which exercises the highest decision-making authority, is held each year in March–April. The meeting considers, among other matters, the financial statements and annual report, confirms the membership fees for the current year, and elects the Chair and members of the Board.
There is no statutory autumn meeting. Instead, an Extraordinary General Meeting may be convened when the Board considers it necessary or when one fifth of the members request it in writing for the consideration of a specified matter.
The Board acts as the statutory representative of the Maritime Association and is responsible for its activities, including approving new members. The Board may establish committees as deemed necessary. In recent years, for example, history and exhibition committees have been active. The Annual General Meeting elects the Chair, two Vice-Chairs and 7–10 other members to the Board.
The Association’s operating and financial year is the calendar year.
